Singapore Premiere - French Release in December 2024
2024 FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL PRESENTS TO YOU:

Director:
 Mareike Engelhardt

Cast: Megan Northam, Lubna Azabal, Natacha Krief

Rating: R21, Some disturbing scenes

Jessica, a 19-year-old Frenchwoman, leaves for Syria to join Daech, motivated by the hope of a new life. On her arrival in Raqqa, she joins a home for the future wives of combatants, where she quickly finds herself under the sway of Madame, the charismatic director who controls the place with an iron fist. In this hostile environment, Jessica, renamed Rabia, becomes Madame's assistant. Their master-slave relationship pushes Rabia to go beyond her convictions, until she can no longer stand the monster the system has made of her...

In competition at 2024 Angoulême Film Festival, Mareike Engelhardt's first feature film is one that will not leave you indifferent. Supported by the impressive and breathtaking performance of rising actress Megan Northman, this film tackles tough subjects such as one's identity when everything falls apart and the cruelty one is willing to inflict in order to find its place. Which path will Rabia choose once she realizes the violence she endured and inflicted?

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with women rights specialists Sadhana Rai and Chloé Vialard
