La galerie , Alliance Française de Singapour
Alliance Française de Singapour is delighted to host Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery's debut exhibition in Singapore: From Landscape to Landscapes. It is a group show that brings together works by artists across generations and cultures to examine the changing landscape as a site of artistic inspiration as well as personal and shared histories. Tracing the geography of their imagination, the exhibition explores these artists’ responses to places in relations to nature, heritage, modernity and cultural relations.
These artists take viewers beyond the traditional painting genre and look into the intertwining relationships between nature, culture, tradition and progress. Landscapes, in plural, speak to an ever-expanding field of expressive language, embodying not only the law of nature, but also our living space and its continuously transforming surrounding.

Lalan 谢景兰
(1921-1995)
Being one of the few French-Chinese multidisciplinary female artists in the 20th century art history, Lalan developed her unique aesthetics by combining the spirituality of traditional Chinese landscape paintings with the spontaneity of Art Informel. Formally trained as a musician and dancer, Lalan transformed bodily gestures into expressive brushstrokes, approached lanscapes with graceful rhythm and flowing movement.

Bernard Buffet
(1928-1999)
He was a French painter renowned for his distinctive style characterized by bold, linear brushwork and somber, often melancholic tones. His work, while primarily figurative, reveals a deep connection to landscapes through its evocative portrayal of urban and rural scenes. Buffet's use of stark lines and muted colors captures the mood and atmosphere of these environments, offering a poignant reflection on the human condition and the world around him. His landscapes, though simplified and stylized, convey a strong emotional resonance and a unique perspective on the natural and built environments.
Claude Venard
(1913-1999)
A French painter known for his vibrant and expressive approach to modern art. His work often features bold, dynamic compositions and a striking use of color. Venard’s landscapes are characterized by their vivid hues and geometric forms, blending abstraction with representational elements. His unique style captures the essence of natural and urban scenes through energetic brushstrokes and a distinctive palette, offering a modern interpretation of landscapes that highlights both their emotional impact and visual complexity.
