THE WRAP.
In a small Japanese town, quiet schoolboy Tsubasa forms an unexpected friendship with the outgoing Gyotaro. Their days together are filled with discoveries, shared secrets and the feeling of finally being understood. But as pressures at school expose the fragility of their bond, an act of betrayal tears them apart, leaving consequences that follow both boys into adulthood.
We Are Aliens (Un monde entre nous) is a visually striking and deeply moving Japanese-French animated drama exploring childhood friendship, belonging and the lasting impact of our choices. In his debut feature, director Kohei Kadowaki combines expressive animation with imagery inspired by live-action movement to capture both the tenderness and cruelty of growing up. Presented at Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes in 2026 and selected for Annecy’s Feature Film Competition, the film offers a poignant reflection on the memories we carry and the people we struggle to understand.
