Nature in Words - A Slam Workshop for Children

What if we started by listening to the living world?

Join us at Alliance Française de Singapour for a unique slam poetry workshop where children will explore their connection with the living world and discover the power of words to express their ideasemotions, and imagination with the artist Laetitia Klotz.

To make the moment even sweeter, the workshop includes a cozy goûter with treats and drinks, the perfect way to enjoy the afternoon together!

The goal is to start with the sensory—the body, sensations, landscapes, animals, plants, the elements, the places that inhabit us—and gradually move toward writing and vocal expression.

Workshop program:

1. Connecting with the Living World—Body and Voice: Group games that get the body and voice moving (breathing, breath control, repetition, rhythm...)

2. Changing Perspectives: Each child chooses a living being—an animal, plant, tree, insect, etc.—and answers various questions. This exercise helps develop vocabulary, sensory awareness, and personification.

3. Writing a Mini-Slam: Based on their character, the children compose a short text with a few poetic and lexical constraints.

4. Presenting Their Text: Experimenting with addressing the audience, volume, rhythm, pauses, intonation, eye contact, and posture.

 5. Create a collective voice: The workshop concludes with a collaborative creation, built from everyone’s individual voices.

Children will develop their French-speaking skills, creativity, listening and cooperation, self-confidence, and sense of rhythm, pronunciation and intonation.

Duration: 2 hours

French level: B2 minimum

Location: Classroom in Alliance Francaise de Singapour

About Laetitia Klotz

An author and performance poet, she has lived in Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Uganda and Singapore. She has worked as a journalist and teacher, contributing to several magazines, including La Revue XXI6Mois and Bouts du Monde. While living in Uganda, she founded the French-language web radio station Bonjour Kampala. Upon returning to France, she created the podcast Tout sur ma mère (All About My Mother).

Driven by a fascination with elsewhere and encounters with others, her artistic practice explores the body as both a political and sensitive space, the ways in which experiences are transmitted and inherited, and poetry’s potential to become a place from which to express and inhabit the living world.

Today, her practice is rooted in ecopoetry. She devotes herself primarily to eloquence workshops, artistic creation—which allows her to tell the world while inhabiting it—and stage performance.

In 2020, she published Intime Arabie, confidences saoudiennes with Éditions Transboréal, followed in 2024 by Comme on attend le jour, a poetry collection published by Michikusa Publishing.

Also in 2024, in collaboration with artist Carla Talopp, she published Les Passagères du Vent, an artist’s book combining visual art and spoken-word poetry. The book was released as a limited edition of 100 numbered copies, including 30 special collectors’ editions. A second edition has since been published.
