About the talk "Comment Écrire"

“You're not born a writer: you become one." Writing workshops or books never made a writer out of anyone who didn't have the qualities. The knowledge of certain techniques, and the help and advice of those who have “dealt with the teething problems” - the great writers - are, on the other hand, fruitful and effective help and support.

This advice is drawn from hundreds of interviews with writers around the world, or from their own texts, shedding light on their techniques, their methods - or their lack of methods - their failures, their tips and tricks... But they never share their recipes, because there are none. Literature isn't about “technique”, but sometimes it's about techniques too.  Writing is a bit like standing in an empty house and watching for ghosts to appear. What makes a novel is this awareness that the world is bigger than we are.

Founded in 2019, Cuturi Gallery is a contemporary art gallery based in Singapore with a strong focus on emerging Singaporean talents, many of whom form the core of the gallery ’s roster. While rooted in its local context, Cuturi Gallery also actively collaborates with emerging and established artists across borders, extending its vision beyond Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific, fostering meaningful exchanges that bridge cultural perspectives between the East and the West. This ongoing dialogue is central to the gallery ’s mission.
In 2020, the gallery launched an in-house residency programme, offering both local and international artists the opportunity to develop new work in Singapore, culminating in a solo presentation. In 2022, Cuturi Gallery began a programme of satellite exhibitions in London, with plans to establish a permanent international outpost by the end of 2026.
In March of 2026, the gallery opened a Parisian space in the heart of the PalaisRoyal, strenghtening its international position and its ambition to foster dialogue between the Asian and European artists it represents, as well as curators and transnational audiences
