A Narrative Music Performance

In the sun-drenched vineyards of southern France, Ramón toils far from his Andalusian roots. Through his co-worker Vincent, he stumbles upon the transformative power of poetry—words that awaken a deep passion within him. At the same time, his quiet longing for Lucía, a girl from his home village, begins to consume his thoughts.

As family expectations weigh heavily on him, Ramón is torn: Should he follow the path laid out for him, or chase a dream that feels just out of reach? Is there hope for love across distance and destiny?

This concert programme explores the rich dialogue between French impressionism and Spanish musical tradition, combining well-known masterpieces with expressive contemporary works and featuring compositions for voice, flute, and piano. Music by Debussy, Ravel, and de Falla provides familiar and much-loved highlights, including Clair de luneLa flûte enchantéeHabanera, and Siete canciones populares españolas.

Poetry plays a central role, with texts by
Paul Verlaine and Federico García Lorca shaping an atmosphere of colour, intimacy, and dramatic intensity. Works by Tailleferre and Mel Bonis add elegant contrast and historical depth, while Elisenda Fábregas’s settings of Lorca connect past and present through a powerful contemporary voice.

Performers:
Maria Gessler – concept, story, soprano & narrator
Roberto Álvarez – flute

Kseniia Vokhmianina – piano
