LA VESTE is a sophisticated exhibition part of the French Excellence programme, Couture, showcasing the artistry of the male jacket by renowned France-based designers and French fashion houses such as Balmain, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, and more.
This exhibition presented and designed by Alliance Française de Singapour, showcasing law professor and fashion photographer David Tan’s collection, curated by Singapore’s renowned international fashion consultant Leonard Augustine Choo, offers a captivating exploration into the evolution of masculine fashion throughout French history.
It will feature 42 meticulously selected men's blazers from David Tan’s private trove, organised into four thematic categories: Military, Ornamentation & Decoration, Art, and Deconstruction/ Reconstruction.

About the collector
David Tan
David Tan, a law professor at the National University of Singapore, extends his influence beyond academia as an esteemed collector with a love for couture jackets. La Veste is the first public exhibition of his jacket collection.
Tan is also an accomplished fine art fashion photographer, and he has showcased his photography work in exhibitions across the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore. His global advertising campaign has been featured in prestigious magazines such as Vanity Fair, New Yorker, Time, and Financial Times.
About the curator
Leonard Augustine Choo
Leonard Augustine Choo, currently serving as the Director of Industry Development for the Singapore Fashion Council is the Curator of the La Veste Exhibition. An internationally acclaimed costume designer, fashion consultant, educator, and bespoke maker based in Singapore, Choo has left his mark on various artistic realms.
Throughout his career, Choo has designed costumes for dance, opera, theatre, and film, notably serving as the principal fabric shopper for the New York City Ballet's costume department for 12 seasons, contributing to over 75 unique ballets
