THE FRENCH ART OF FINE DINING

In April, Alliance Française puts the spotlight on the French art of fine dining, with À TABLE! 

First, meet us in our gallery for an exhibition featuring three unique dining tables furnished with iconic objects from our brand partners (Christofle, Baccarat, Bernardaud). Across the gallery, visitors will also get to appreciate a collection of historical menus linking France and the Southeast Asia region.


In conjunction with the exhibition, we will be hosting close to a dozen workshops ranging from wine, champagne, and cheese tasting, to workshops on dining etiquette and the French art of setting a table. We also have in store a cinema programme in line with the theme of gastronomy and will be screening a documentary on natural wine directed by Stéphanie Rigourd, the most prominent French sommelier in Singapore. Finally, every Friday in April, we will be posting on social media a recipe from an acclaimed French restaurant in Singapore.

A VERY SPECIAL PATRON 

Guillaume Gomez, former chef at the Elysée Palace and the French President's "personal representative" for promoting "French gastronomy, culinary arts, and food" internationally, will be the guest of honour (from the French side) for this exclusive programme.

EXHIBITION: LA TABLE DANS TOUS SES ÉTATS

Organised in partnership with Christofle, Baccarat, Bernardaud, and the Fond Gourmand (Gourmet Fund) at the Municipal Library of Dijon (France), this exhibition showcases the versatility and elegance of the French table through three specially furnished dining tables and a collection of historical menus linking France and the Southeast Asian region, such as those from state dinners offered by the French president to the late King Rama IX of Thailand or even to the former President of the Republic of Singapore. We will also be showcasing menus served onboard cruise ships and aircrafts that have connected France with this region of the world.

WORKSHOP: CHEESE PARTY

with The Cheese House

Come and join the Cheese Master Antoine Zaruba as he will introduce the different cheeses selected and their origin. He will also give some insights and unique stories about the producers! Gather your friends at home, turn on your computer and enjoy the Cheese while learning tips from an expert. 
We have chosen to fit into this selection a loaf of our delicious sourdough bread to have the best accompaniment to our special cheese platter.

TALK: CONFERENCE ON GASTRODIPLOMACY

What is the link between food and diplomacy? Drawing from his rich experience leading the kitchens of the Elysée Palace from 1997 to 2021, Guillaume Gomez, author of À la table des présidents , will give us an insider's perspective into what goes on behind the scenes of state dinners and receptions at the presidential palace. Joining the panel will also be Mr. Laurent Stefanini, Ambassador of France to Monaco and author of À la table des diplomates - a historical account of how France transformed its cuisine into a diplomatic asset - who will share with us the ongoing importance of gastronomy in forging ties between countries. The conference will be introduced by Mr Marc Abensour, Ambassador of France to Singapore.

In this live session taking place over Zoom, Guillaume Gomez will answer your questions about his extraordinary career, share some anecdotes and present his latest book À la table des présidents, in conjunction with the wonderful exhibition currently on display at the Alliance Française de Singapour.
