FRENCH ANIMATION FILM FESTIVAL IS BACK!

FAFF returns for its 7th edition, to present a unique selection of French animation films! Discover the real creatures of the night in Zombillénium, venture into the jungle with The Jungle Bunch, follow the adventures of Les Drôles de Petites bêtes in Tall Tales, journey through the megalopolis of California in Mutafukaz, enter a magical world of blue rabbits with Emilie Jolie, rediscover winter with Ernest and Célestine in Winter. Still crave more? Discover the vast diversity that animated films have to offer through the course of nine short films on Sunday evening!

With no less than 7 screenings, 2 workshops, 1 talk!

Before each screening, discover one or two graduation movies from French Schools Emile Cohl and Atelier de Sèvres. Students of animation from Nanyang Polytechnic will present some of these movies following a correspondence established with their French counterparts.

Synopsis:
As a health and safety inspector, Hector is naturally cautious and rather officious, so when Lucie, his 8-year-old daughter, won’t stop going on about how much she wants to visit the theme park Zombillenium, Hector’s suspicions are piqued and he instigates a spontaneous inspection. Unfortunately, the amusement park is run by real creatures of the night, all pretending to be fake monsters. When Hector threatens to disclose the true identity of his employees, the Vampire Park Manager decides to hire him.

Following the screening, Alexis Ducord (director) and Benjamin Massoubre (editor) will take part in a Q&A.

Synopsis:

Synopsis 

When Apollo the cricket, a travelling performer with a big heart, arrives at the village of small animals, he does not delay in disrupting the life of the Kingdom, on the eve of the jubilee of the Queen. This results in a conspiracy fomented by Huguette, the Queen’s cousin who wants to get the throne, Apollo is accused of kidnapping the Queen. Synopsis:
Angelino is one of the thousands of deadbeats living in Dark Meat City, a megalopolis of California. They will also conduct a master class organized at the School of Interactive and Digital Media (SIDM) – Nanyang Polytechnic in the afternoon.

ALEXIS DUCORD – Director of Zombillenium

Alexis is a French graphic artist who specialises in storyboarding for animation (Avril et le monde truquéApril and the Extraordinary World). After graduating from Les Gobelins animation school in 2000, he worked on over 20 animated series like Lucky Luke (France Télévision), and more recently Milly Miss Question (France 5) as well as on commercials. Very technically talented, he has produced the editing and animation for all his own projects as well as,in 2013, for a series created by Jul, Silex and the City (Arte). He co-directed Zombillénium in 2017 with Arthur de Pins.

BENJAMIN MASSOUBRE – Editor of Zombillenium

Benjamin studied editing for 2 years in Paris before becoming an assistant on commercials and feature films. He began in animation, his lifelong passion, by working on TV Shows like Iron Man Armored Adventures or Skyland and then moved to animated movies, working with lots of different talents in the French animation industry. His works include among others: Long Way North by Rémi Chayé, The Big Bad Fox by Benjamin Renner & Patrick Imbert, Zombillenium by Arthur De Pins & Alexis Ducord and the Box Office success, Leap. He is now working on his directorial debut, developing a movie with his friend Alexis Ducord.

 

STOP MOTION ANIMATION WORKSHOP

For children over 7 years old.
A minimum of one adult for every 2 children and a maximum of two adults per child is required.

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the basics of stop motion animation. The artists will lead participants through a brainstorming and basic storyboarding process before participants start to animate their short stories. After the workshop, the artists will put the animations together and email the shorts that participants have created to them.

Weaving Clouds is an animation studio that specializes in using different types of animation techniques to tell stories. Unlike most animation companies that specialize in a single animation technique, the artists at Weaving Clouds pride themselves as storytellers and believe that each type of animation technique has its forte that can help enhance content presentation in its own unique ways.

Synopsis:
A luxurious villa and its grounds have become home to amorous, hungry and accident-prone frogs and toads. While they enjoy the bounties on offer, including caviar and macaroons, the amphibians uncover the whereabouts of the villa’s owner.

 

tttGarden Party is a graduation movie, created by six students from MOPA School in Arles, France. After they released it in 2016, the movie started to garner huge success. Their short film was nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the Oscars in 2018.

Partnership of French and Singaporean Animation Schools

3L’Atelier is an animation school which offers training in animation. This 3-year bachelor’s degree instructs students in the field of contemporary creation, mixing cinema, animation, writing, art and experimentation.

 

4The Emile Cohl School specialises in teaching drawing. Its founding in 1984 is, in itself, an activist act in the struggle against the gradual disappearance of visualizing the world through art.

 

5The School of Interactive & Digital Media (SIDM) thrives on providing a dynamic mix of creativity, the applied arts, interactive and digital media design and technology. The SIDM believe in collaborating with industry and educational partners.
