Grégoire Ponceludon de Malavoy is a young aristocrate. He leaves his province to Versailles in order to ask king Louis XVI to drain the wetlands which cause epidemics decimating the peasants of his lands. But once arrived, he discovers a refined but decadent court. Before obtaining an audience with the king, he will have to prove his wit and save his honor in the middle of the effervescence, the gossipings and the intrigues of the pre-revolutionary Versailles.
