In 1809, captain Charles-Grégoire Neuville asks Pauline Beaugrand’s hand in marriage. She is a young lady from a good family and lives in a castle in Burgundy. Everyone is enthusiastic. But suddenly, the captain receives an order to go fighting against the Austrians. On the point of going, on his horse, he promises Pauline to write her a letter every single day. But the seducer apparently forgets and Pauline doesn’t receive anything during days, weeks, months… As she starts to be depressed, her sister Elisabeth, worried about her, decides to write a letter to her sister with the captain’s signature. This letter is very romantic and Pauline and her parents are fulfilled. Pauline answers directly to her lover, which engage Elisabeth to write again. A real correspondence is started.
