In 1975, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Chou lives peacefully with her family. But one day the Khmer Rouge’s madness plunges her world into horror. Families are torn apart while the population is deported into camps. Individuals are devoid of any humanity. Sufferings, famine, executions and fear become permanent. Chou’s son is snatched from her by a fleeing crowd while she is shoved forward by soldiers. From that painful separation, she does not give up hope and tries to fight as a protective mother in a barbaric time.
