Paris, 1930. Paul has only seen the high walls of the orphanage, a severe building in the Parisian suburbs. But he is entrusted to a cheerful country lady, Célestine, and her husband, Borel, the rather stiff game-keeper of a vast estate in Sologne. The child of the cities, rebellious and stubborn, arrives in this mysterious world, that of a sovereign and savage region. The immense forest, the ponds, the cultures, everything here belongs to the Comte de La Fresnaye, a quiet widower who lives alone in his manor.
The Count tolerates poachers on the estate but Borel relentlessly hunts down the most cunning of them, a man named Totoche, without ever being able to catch him in the act. In the heart of the Sologne, alongside the famous Totoche, Paul will learn life, nature, its secrets and will learn to glue fish, game, mushrooms and plants … But Paul did not come by chance in this unknown universe.
